//GS -- the most
purely enjoyable programming platform[s] I ever owned!!
I still have two complete systems:
- A "Woz" signature special
- A //GS -- "souped" up with almost every enhancement (HD, expanded memory, etc.) made for it by Applied Engineering. It has the Apple video Overlay Card, and is set up as the signal processor for a sophisticated video editing suite that includes a pair of high end Panasonic VHS editing decks and controller. And it also has a MIDI system and software for composing music -- playable via the GS's built in "Ensoniq" synth chip or an external MIDI keyboard...
Looks like I should download this new OS rev, drag out the "toys"-- and "play" a bit...
Now -- what do I have on hand for burning a floppy for "feeding" the OS rev to the Gs...?
I also have a couple IIGS machines, one a "Woz" special and the other a later model. In addition, I have a IIe converted to a IIGS - it's a IIGS motherboard in a IIe case with a modified backplane and base.
As for feeding the machine, I have successfully downloaded files using the audio tape input port on my Apple II machines. There are some Apple sites that allow you to feed the audio output of your Mac or iPad directly into the Apple II tape port. Weird, but it works.
An easier solution is to obtain a USB/CompactFlash card (they run about $150 for a CFFA3000 from dreher.net) to stick in the IIGS. Download files to any USB stick on your Mac, then insert the USB stick in the IIGS and don't bother with floppies.
