Yes, surprisingly it does work.

It’s a technique that was/is taught to Salesman in a number of industries.

It’s a reply from a position of authority or greater understanding.

Basically, it breaks down to “I know more than you. You are stupid, therefore, trust me, believe me or follow me etc”

The idea is to assert yourself as having far superior knowledge by belittling the “Person” making an objection, not the content of their objection. When done properly you can create a level of uncertainty which reinforces your authority.

Personally I could never do this but I’ve seen it in action hundreds and hundreds of times.

It does work.
