Given today’s technology, food preservation and global shipping the only way anybody will starve is if governments want them to. The Soviet Union starved about 20 million of their own people to death. FDR’s government bought and destroyed millions of meat animals and tons of grain and cotton...to raise prices. This while people truly were starving. This is what governments do.
The other possibility leading to mass starvation is global war. Believe it or not, liberals, the reason there hasn’t been a global war since the last one is THE UNITED STATES. But you have substantially weakened the US by under funding the military and changing the can-do, help-yourself-to-help others culture. Do you really think having people prancing around in uniform pretending to be a sex they weren’t born with will help things?
Thermodynamics is apparently a little-studied branch of physics.
At least by these pseudo-scientists that claim to be authorities on Global Warming.
All other things being equal, warmer water is above colder water. The degree of salinity would change that (very saline water is heavier than very cold water that is less saline), but of equal salinity, the warm waters would be at the top, the cooler waters would be at depth.
About 1,500 meters of depth, water almost everywhere in the ocean is at a steady 4 degrees Celsius. Doesn’t matter if it is at the equator, or under the polar ice caps. Water is most dense at that temperature, and in fact, has to EXPAND to freeze. That is why ice floats.
“Given todays technology, food preservation and global shipping the only way anybody will starve is if governments want them to. “
That statement assumes the foresight to store food beyond normal consumption, the ability to grow food without the strong help of the sun and that shipping is unhindered as the economy falls apart and disease is rampant.
Other than that, I think you are on to something...
As a former farmer, I can tell you that that sentence simply is not true.
Our crops are designed for our current climate.
Turn the temperature down a few degrees, add in a bunch more cloudy days, maybe some rainy wet weather, and a 10% crop reduction will only be a beginning. A crop loss of half or more is well within possibility. That could go on for decades, and even Americans could truly be starving.
Without real no-government-funded GMO efforts we could be in serious trouble.
