He MAY be doing some read-only checking in to see what's going on in his absence. If so, wait until he sees this thread and can see the pics!
If whatever he is doing is mundane... hell have to make a good story up! Pirates, sharks, kidnapped and escaped... something good. :)
Mundane? Trav? Not bloody likely. Recreational, fun vacation, maybe. But if nothing else, I bet he gets the germ of a good idea about another yarn.
As for the Pirates and kidnapping, maybe. But with cutie girl pirates, I'd hope, and with a recipe for shark steak on the Barbie-que grill, with lemon and rum sauce. Yum!
I'm not a bit surprised. But did you note in my response about * But in any event, El Paso Saddlery still uses the original patterns and machinery they did back when Charlie Bluemel kept 'em honest.* That'd be circa 1920-'25 or so, back in the days of Border Charlie Atkins and Tommy Box. There some fantastic masters of the tools of their trade back then. And Bluemel was at least as talented a leather craftsman as Tio Sam Myres.
The late Army ordnance Major George Nonte, who was a personal friend and mentor to me while I was attending the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism [really!] shared several stories with me of his days in Texas At Ft Hood/Bliss/Sam Houston. He also traded me out of an awful lot of really interesting gun, camera and Corvair parts. And an original SD Myers saddler holster for a 1911. If'n it had been a Bluemel, I don't expect I'd have let it go.
Tacking an jibing leeward and windward in blue water on vacation is my SWAG......
Your ride's here.
Below the high tide mark.....call the navy......:o)
Wow.... love the history of that stuff......:o)
Travis McGee’s still in Cedar Key. That’s what old John Macdonald said. - Jimmy Buffett, Incommunicado
I haven’t had a Jimmy-Buffett-thon in years. Any more it reminds me too much of my wayward misspent lost youth.
Somehow brings to mind an early work of Bob Newhart.
Could be that too.
Still wondering. Any news of Matt?
He was out sailing.
Yup, I just found out. Thanks for the note.
Methinks it’s important to keep tabs on each other, ensuring someone doesn’t think it’s a good idea to “disappear” dissenters.
The Empty Copper Sea - 1978:
“I’ve been gone since early March, Van. I got back a week ago. Duke Davis had a party down in the Grenadines on that big ketch of his, the Antsie, and he had a bad fall and tore up his back, and he cabled me to come down and help him bring the Antsie all the way home. I didn’t have any time to read the papers or listen to the news.”

Yeah, but sometimes, you just can’t keep track of everyone, especially those who seldom post or might not have a lot of friends. But the effort is worth it.
Well, when a high-profile vocal critic of our current governmental body suddenly disappears without warning or explanation, methinks it’s worth finding out why.
