tatue, shmatue. The latest effort to expunge the odious memory of a man who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War doesn’t just end with his sculpted likeness. The city of Memphis wants the earthly remains of General Nathan Bedford Forrest exhumed and moved out of Dodge. His wife’s, too.

CBS affiliate WREG reports:

On Tuesday evening the Memphis City Council unanimously passed a resolution to remove … Forrest’s remains from under his statue in the Health Sciences Park on Union Avenue…. “It is no longer politically correct to glorify someone who was a slave trader, someone who was a racist on public property,” said City Council member Myron Lowery.

This is the most vile and racist act I have seen. The dead should remain in their graves undisturbed.

I read about them discussing it several days ago right after I’d posted the next thing the whiners would do is dig up the Confederate cemeteries and sure enough... Hope they’re haunted 24/7. What sickos.

Why is Robert Byrd, a KKK grand kleagle, still in the ground? Why is most everything in W. Virginia still named after him. His crimes were 100 years more recent than Forest. It’s inexcusable.

How long before they dig up the graves of Washington and Jefferson, dynamite Mt. Rushmore and raze the Washington monument because they were “racist slave owners.” Don’t think that the people desecrating General Forrest’s memory wouldn’t love to do all of the above, they just don’t have the political support or power to do so (yet), so they’re focusing on easier targets.

I've been told by someone who is a big fan of NBF that Forrest wanted to be buried in Elmwood Cemetery and that he was moved to the current spot years after his death.

Why stop at Forrest? Next they will want to disinter all slaveholders and dump their remains in unmarked mass graves.

My theory is they are doing this to discredit the founding fathers. Jefferson, Washington etc. owned slaves so next they are going to move onto them and then attempt to discredit the entire US as a concept, declare the Constitution void. This is just more of the Obama regime riling up the stupid people to bring down the country.

Unionists at Ft. Pillow tried to spring a trap on Forrest and his men by telling the black artillerymen to not surrender and draw the Confederates onto the flat plain of the fort while the blacks took cover on the banks of the Mississippi. One problem, the Confederates were carrying six shooters, at least two of them apiece, and the gunboats that were to use their heavy artillery against the Confederates were cowered by the sharpshooters set up on the banks by Forrest. Every time the Union Navy would open a port to aim, the Confederate sharpshooters filled the port. Until late in the battle after the carnage, the blacks and the Unionists surrendered. One also has to consider why Forrest was there in the first place. His men were from that area of Tennessee and the Unionists and black soldiers were grubbing up the area which meant destroying personal property and violation of women. The hatred between the Tennessee Unionists and Confederates was intense. At one point, members of the unit at Fort Pillow captured Confederates at Middleton, Tennessee, and killed one at every mile marker between there and Purdy, Tennessee. They even skinned a couple of them. These were the men at Fort Pillow. Yes, and Forrest did say, shoot them down like dogs, but it was in relationship to the hatred between the two forces. Forrest stated in the Official Record that if he caught any of the 6th Tennessee he would kill them as criminals on the spot. There is quite a bit more to the history than what is written by the fly by historians.One of my ancestors was a member of the 6th Tennessee and family oral history confirms the atrocities committed by them.

Most of Tennessee would like to cut Memphis loose, and help the state. Shelby County has a LOT of problems, and as I understand it, is a drain on the state treasury due to the concentration of social program recipients.

If we could get rid of idiots like the ones voting for this, Memphis could be a really great place. Most conservatives have fled to the suburbs, because you can’t fight people whose full-time job it is to stir the pot. We have real jobs that require our attention.

It’s like middle-aged slow-pitch softball players coming up against a Major League baseball team who plays every day and practices when they are not playing.

This whole episode is sick and perverted. Even ISIS doesn’t dig up the Graves of Historical Figures as far as I know. If they did, they would be Democrats.

ISIS just fills Graves with People who don’t share their Ideology, just like the Democrats and Liberals wish they could do with People like us if given the chance.
