Of all the people who have been killed in war since 1900, how many were killed with small arms fire from a sidearm? And most of them were probably just assassinated by somebody with a pistol to the head.
I rest my case.
Correct good sir. In war you are killed by rifle, mortar, artillery, bombs, and landmines, perhaps not in that order but that is what kills most. However, I do want to have the most effective handgun round available for our guys on the the ground. I do know an individual (past away some few weeks ago) that might not have survived until this last month if it were not for a 1911 45 ACP. He was a fighter pilot shot down over North Vietnam. He punched out and the Navy Rescue Choppers came in to pick him up. He shot one NVA with his 45 ACP 1911 just as they dropped the cage with a Navy Rescue Man to retrieve him.
He attributed his life to that Colt 45 and the United States Navy.
Once I asked him how did he as a pilot in the United States Air Force feel about being rescued by the Navy. Without hesitation he said, "I would have kissed the Son of a Bitch." As mentioned he sadly passed away a few weeks ago. He lead a hell of a life as a pilot and also as an engineer in the oilfield after he left the service. I asked him once what he liked the best outside of combat. He said low level flight out in West Texas over the desert in an F4, Our great nation was a less after his passing. He had a DAMN GOOD RUN.
my .44 magnum Desert Eagle disagrees :)
A little exaggerated. The round not working was a wimpy 38 pistol load. The 30-06 works just fine for knocking people down. And for the record modern 9mm HP ammo works great on people. Despite the legend 45 FMJ is not a death beam, better than lesser calibers in FMJ but not that great either.
