You know what is sickening. No Republican politician will make a political issue out of this. But when the shoe is on the other foot, Democrat politicians milk idiotic and not so idiotic statements from Republican politicians for all they are worth.
You are probably right, in that the Republicans aren't much different from the Democrats - with a few exceptions they are all members of the 'let's grow Big Government' UniParty.
But that said, if a Republican pointed out this Senator's idiocy would we ever hear about it? The communist Media censors the 'news'. They'll let you hear what they deem fit to be heard.
