Mugabe would know Obama's birthplace, wouldn't he?

“We have this American president, Obama, born of an African father, who is saying we will not give you aid if you don’t embrace homosexuality...” Mugabe reportedly said at a 2013 campaign rally.

Why would some third-world dictator know more than buttloads of blogger birthers?
