CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The 2015 Manure Expo is coming to Chambersburg on July 14 and 15.

The goal of the expo is to bring farmers, certified haulers, researchers, extension educators, government agency personnel and equipment dealers to share their knowledge about this part of agriculture.

With farm tours, educational sessions and equipment demonstrations, this year’s expo site will be on Ingram Drive, just off Interstate 81 in Chambersburg.

Tuesday, July 14 is tour day.

Participants can choose from one of three tours.

All tours will leave from and return to the expo site.

The dairy and agitation tour will travel to Mercer Vu Dairy, Slate Ridge Dairy, and to BurkLea Farms for the agitation demonstrations.

Static draglines, calf feeding systems, feed management, anaerobic digestion, and cropping and manure strategies are a few of the topics to be discussed.

Lunch will be provided.

The agitation only tour will travel to BurkLea Farms for the agitation demonstrations.

The equine andsmall beef farm tour will travel to the equine facilities at Wilson College and the Kiskaddon Beef Farm.

Topics include manure collection and storage, heavy use areas, pasture evaluation, concrete barnyard improvements and irrigation of gray water.

Lunch will be provided.

The previously scheduled poultry tour has been canceled due to the unforeseen severity of the Avian Influenza outbreak in other parts of the country.

All tours will return to the expo site around 5:15 p.m.

The trade show will be open until 8:30 p.m. Educational sessions will be available that evening.

On Wednesday, July 15, the trade show and educational sessions will continue. The grounds open at 7:30 a.m.

Educational sessions will begin at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day.

Solid manure demonstrations (spreaders and compost turners) will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Liquid manure demonstrations will take place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. A live action spill response will be demonstrated from 3:30 to 4 p.m. The trade show will close at 5 p.m., but the grounds will remain open for educational sessions from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Manure hauler/broker, nutrient management, and odor credits will be available.

A T-shirt will be created with the 2015 Manure Expo slogan on the front: “2015 North American Manure Expo: Manure that you can Handle!”

For fun, the back will include the top 10 rejected manure expo slogans.

The first 600 registrants will receive a free T-shirt. Shirts will be available for sale on the website and onsite at the manure expo. Shirts ordered online will not be shipped until July 14, when the slogans will be revealed.

The event is free, but participants are asked to register.

When registering, print your ticket and bring it with you.

You know, I was doing fine suppressing my juvenile love of potty jokes, until I got to this line: “Lunch will be provided.”
