The July/August 2015 issue of the Reader's Digest mentioned this lady as still being alive and collecting her pension. I found that interesting. But the Reader's Digest gave very few details. So I did a little digging.
Presented as a break from all the bad news about trade deals and out-of-control politicians.

I did not know your father’s pension could supplement a daughter’s medical bills?
Is this being properly applied or is this an oversight?

Another site mentioned that the lady’s father joined the Confederate Army, but deserted to the Union in 1862. Perhaps that explains why she lives in North Carolina.
