The TPA makes it easier for Obama to pass the TPP and other agreements and trade bills. Why would you want to give Obama this power???
What jstaff will not tell Freepers is that the TPA removes what George Washington put in over 200 years ago.
The TPA will lower the requirements to pass a trade bill, agreement, etc.. from the current 2/3rds majority. Moreover, it’s designed to ram legislation through congress and limit the debate.
That way the feds can SNEAK things through laws before the public has time to full examine it. The feds are hoping you do not see what is in it. It will be used to bring in Carbon Taxes, ban guns, ban free speech, etc..
The Establishment/Globalist are in trouble. They know this, and it’s why they are change the rules on how to pass an agreement, trade bill, etc...
The TPP will never pass with a 2/3rd majority. The Establishment knows this. This is why they are trying to pass the TPA. They want to change the voting rules and time. Hence it’s name “Fast Track”. I call the TPA the sneak HIGH TREASON through bill.
Translation: They want to fast track into law before the We the People can have the time to read it, digest, understand it, absorb it, talk, debate about it and ultimately have a vote for it up or down.
Thus, they are trying to lock everything down
To say it is not related to the TPP.... IS dishonest.
The Establishment KNOWS without the TPA they have a snowball chance in hell passing the TPP.
The TPA is a DIRTY TRICK. Don’t fall for the deceitful tricks from the Establishment that are trying to OUTSOURCE our sovereignty to corrupt foreign communist nations.
Please do not let the establishment undo what George Washington put in over 200 years ago.
Yes but the TPA will make it easier to pass the TPP.
Why would you want to make it easier with the TPA to pass the TPP???
> “Let it drag out until 2017.”
You need to come up to speed on the political nuts and bolts, otherwise you’re just old dog howling at the moon.
The politics in 2017 are that 60 votes in the Senate will be needed for cloture for a fresh vote on TPA. There’s a snowball’s chance in Hell the Senate democrats will in 2017 give President Cruz enough votes to reach 60.
That’s why it’s now or never for TPA.
TPA is not the problem. Barack Obama is.
President Cruz with TPA is GOOD for America but he won’t get it in 2017 because of democrats.
President Hillary with TPA is BAD for America and she may get it with McConnell as Senate Majority Leader.
Ted says he won’t get it in 2017 because democrats won’t give enough votes for cloture because they won’t want to give him the power.
The rest of your post is spot on.
Baucas had 107 pages in the 2014 Bill. One can read it as it is online as are others,
You’re correct on one hand and uninformed on another.
The TPA has an amendment filed by Ted Cruz (filed as S.Amdt 1384 to S.Amdt 1221) that prohibits any trade deal using TPA ‘fast track’ from circumventing current US Immigration Law.
Barack Obama wants two things more than any other:
1. Climate Change regulation and taxation agreements.
2. Backdoor Amnesty.
Obama does not have time to negotiate and setup agreements and infrastructure for his Climate Change agenda but Hillary has time. But Hillary needs millions of illegals registered to vote and to be voted democrat. So backdoor amnesty is crucial to Hillary getting Climate Change regulation and taxation established.
But backdoor amnesty provisions will be against the law in any trade deal using fast track because of Senator Cruz’ amendment.
The other thing that is good about TPA is that it requires any trade deal to be public for 60 days prior to its vote.
The other concerns of Senator Sessions are of an attack on America’s 2nd amendment. When members of Congress have 60 days to study any trade bill in detail and the public is able to see such bills, all of the socialist agenda items will be on full display. Americans and American courts have consistently voted down anti-2nd amendment actions and proposals. So Senator Cruz is not worried so much about Trade Deal enactment under Obama.
Other factors in Cruz’ position to push for TPA are TPA is impossible to pass in 2017 by reasons given in a previous post to this thread AND the calendar available for Obama to do anything with a trade deal.
Ted Cruz says Obama has 19 months left; 6 months in 2015, 12 months in 2016 and 1 month in 2017. But this is too generous.
In reality Obama will not be able to do any trade deal in January 2017 nor during any lame-duck session in 2016 (November and December) and 4 months of the 2016 campaign season (July, August, September and October). And TPP will take at least another 3 months to be voted on. Therefore, Obama has only 9 months max to get a trade deal negotiated and even then it is subject to an up or down vote.
213 amendments. This is insane.
“Better to do it now and get it out of the way.
I have seen that statement quite a number of times. It is incredible. TPA empowers Obama. Why on earth do you think Obama wants it so badly? It is so he can pass TPP and the other top secret bills, which achieves his goal of “fundmentally transforming” the United States, as in destroying the United States. Cruz and the Republicans are BETRAYING the nation. As Drudge called it, it is treason.
TPA, once passed, will lead to TPP, TiSA, and T-TiP inevitably be passed.
That’s the purpose of TPA—to so grease the congressional skids that nobody can stop the actual deals being passed.
Yes, most Republicans favor free trade. But deflecting to Walker and Perry to take the heat of Cruz is very nice of you.
Ted Cruz - May 2015
"I am a strong supporter of free trade, but I cannot support legislation that would allow the President to once again circumvent Congress to enact his own immigration laws.
Ted Cruz - June 2015
Ted Cruz argued TPA is not giving the president more authority
Questions for Ted Cruz Supporters
So, why did Ted Cruz offer an amendment to TPA specifically to restrict the POTUS from using those immigration powers given to them by TPA?
Why did Ted Cruz vote for TPA after his amendment failed?
Why is Ted Cruz contradicting himself now and attacking Sen Jeff Sessions (who has been consistently ringing the alarm on TPAs immigration powers?
Something screwy here...why the secret room? If not this, thn what else was in the room? Why would Merchant, a Republican have this?
TPA is a means to circumvent the US Constitution.
The US Constitution is very clear on how agreements with foreign nations should be conducted.
You see, under that pesky, old US Constitution, treaties could be debated, amended and required a 2/3 majority vote in the Senate.
Well, that was just too difficult.
You see, because trade deals are so lucrative, our Congress has decided to re-define trade deals as separate from treaties.
In this way, they can set their own rules for how trade deals are approved.
Fast Track is nothing new. It has been around for a while. But it is never the same each time it comes up for re-authorization.
This time, Fast Track (known as TPA) contains all sorts of extra powers transferred from the Legislative branch to the Executive branch that were not contained in previous versions.
This new version of Fast Track makes it more difficult to reject a trade agreement than to approve a trade agreement.
Let that sink in.
When have you heard of legislation that makes it more difficult to say “no”?
Remember, the Constitution says agreements with other nations should meet a very high threshold before approved.
TPA makes approving trade deals a 51 vote simple majority.
But...TPA makes REJECTING trade deals to require a 60 vote majority.
If a trade deal gets less than 51 votes, but more than 40, it is still alive and can be voted upon again and again and again.
Now, remember, these trade deals are very lucrative....worth billions.
The people who will know the details are the executive and legislative staffers, congressmen, cabinet members, etc. who were involved. Many will get high-paying jobs to help companies navigate the new trade deal.
TPA is nothing more than a means for the ruling class to enrich themselves.
TPA offers no protections for US citizens.
Many Republicans support Fast Track because free trade is good.
I agree that free trade is a good idea.....but it must be done right.
Previous versions of Fast Track, and especially this version, the TPA, create no incentive to do trade deals right.
Its nor deflection. Its pointing a finger in the face of the cowards like yourself who are attacking Cruz but no one else for the same.
You really and truly are cowards.
We expected more from Cruz than everyone else who could vote on this feces-laden legislation.
Cruz contradicted himself. Cruz took ACTIONS that are detrimental to this nation in the form of votes. Cruz supports circumventing the US Constitution by implementing Fast Track. I thought Cruz would support the Constitution?
Those are all valid discussion points in a Ted Cruz thread.
Yes, most GOP candidates support Fast Track and free trade. They should be discussed in their threads.
There is nothing cowardly about pointing out Cruz's hypocrisy, contradicting statements, actions and views on this issue.
You seem to be asking everyone to bury their heads in the sand regarding Cruz while you point to the other guy saying "see, they are the same"
Just face facts, Cruz is not all you expected him to be.
It does not mean he would not make a good POTUS. It is just the reality of politics.
Observing a candidate's words and actions are important.
If you want us to look the other way with regard to Cruz, there might be something wrong with you.
PS: Notice how I did not call you names? Try that next time.
Right, and Sen Cruz voted for TPA ten days after he reviewed TPP in May. He must have been comfortable enough with whatever he saw in the secret room, because once you pass TPA, TPP is just a formality to pass.
He’s being very disingenuous with his “I voted for TPA but may not support TPP” line. He won’t have any power to stop it.
Yep. The reality is there isn’t one of us running—despite the 15 candidates. They are all of them.
But I’m actually toying with the idea of Fiorina being as good as any of them. Certainly she’s the most impressive being grilled by the press.
Thanks jstaff.
