And be sure to clean any paint off the connection location down to bare metal. Put a dab of Dielectric grease on the location. It's at the Checkout at AZ in little packets (like Ketchup sized)

Yes. Undersized wires and over-sized fittings. The plumbing equivalent would be putting 1-1/2" valves on 1/4" pipes.
