I abhor mafia/gangster movies of recent times. Glorifying these monsters is not entertainment.

I didn't think the movie was great, but the best thing about it is that the characters are portrayed as anything but glamorous. My conclusion at the end was "Why didn't they just go legit? They spent so much effort to be criminals they could have had a much easier life with a normal job."
Even after being spared an indefinite prison sentence and getting away from it with his life, Henry Hill didn't learn anything. He resented the fact that all of the unearned, coerced wealth he received because of his Mob connections was gone, and that he was being placed on the same level as "schmucks" who actually earned their livings honestly.
I love gangster movies based on real life, but they sure as hell don’t make me want to become a criminal. I’ve yet to see one where I thought, wow, I want in on all that prison and shooting and stabbing.
