I live near and know the Duggars.
I thought maybe I would provide a little perspective on why this is happening now.
I'll use a timeline as that may be the easiest way to show events.
Fall/November 2014 - Fayetteville Arkansas, a notoriously liberal and hippy community tries to pass a Trans-gender Equality law/ordinance.
The ordinance would have forced businesses and churches to accept gays and trans-genders in their bathrooms and businesses. It was quite a heinous ordinance.
Michelle Duggar began making robo calls against the ordinance. The Duggars used their influence, money and everything they had to stop the ordinance.
By late 2014, early 2015 the Ordinance was repealed by the people. This ENRAGED the gay, hippy, liberal community in Fayetteville and Springdale. The two cities are minutes apart. The Duggars were blamed for the failure of the ordinance.
Soon after, the GAY Police Chief of Springdale, Arkansas, where the Duggars live, announced she would be retiring in a few months. In her statement she said she would not retire before 'she finished up some unfinished business'
The local elections were held and the Sheriff of Washington County and other officials were safely in place. Within a few months .. the GAY police chief illegal releases the Duggar documents.
Late Spring 2015 - The Duggars lose their TV show, Josh is forced to resign, the Duggars are now embarrassed and their name is MUD.
Within 2 WEEKS OF THE DUGGAR CONTROVERSY.. Fayetteville Councilman have now brought the Transgender bathroom/church/business issue back up again. Now that they have the Duggars out of the way.. the ordinance is theirs to pass without interference.

OTOH, to "out" him and even WORSE, his victims, NOW, is actually far worse than what he did and a young teen! And THAT is what this thread IS about.

I’m just shocked that anyone is making excuses for this child molester.
His parents and his victims have forgiven him, dealt with what he did, and moved on. It appears that YOU can't let it go and this has nothing at all to do with you.
I have not said anyone condoned it. I’ve engaged in thoughtful and civil discussions with people who have different opinions about it.
I’ll continue to do that until I get bored with it.
While I can’t defend what he did, I can believe that perhaps he has changed. But what bothers me is that if he was molesting at age 13 what in the world was going on inside his head? Had he been abused also? Exposed to porn? It just don’t seem normal for a 13 year old to up and start molesting his sisters.
He could be a changed man now. I’m willing to concede that. I think what’s done is done and I’m not looking for his head on a platter.
I’m pre-disposed to like the Duggar family as a whole. I have a lot of things in common with them.
But what I am not prepared to do is excuse their hubris in selling themselves as the morality squad for America when they knew they had a deeply troubled oldest son. They positioned him to be in the job he took all the while knowing that his crime could reflect and destroy the hard work of many conservatives over many years, all because of their hubris.
His job was based on his celebrity, not his accomplishments.
I also dislike the way that Jim Bob and Michelle made slaves out of their older daughters. The bible is clear that the Mother’s role belongs to her, not her young daughters. If she was having more children than she could care for, she should have stopped.
I also dislike the way they started doing things to have more children rapidly when the TV money came along. And at that point they knew for sure they had failed at protecting the children they had. But they chose to stop nursing infants at extremely early times so that ovulation would start back. And they KNEW they were not protecting or taking care of the children they had, but they went for more anyway.
I also dislike their constant preoccupation with sex and Jim Bob talking so much about sex in front of his little girls. I feel that was wrong and his putting his daughters in charge of his sexual arousal in public was (to me) sinful on his part. His little girls should not have to be in public and be charged with telling NIKE! at their dad so that he won’t look at a woman in shorts walking past him.
That’s screwed up.
When they first came out, I was charmed to a degree and I’d certainly have considered myself a big fan.
I was already “not a fan” when these events were exposed and watching them on TV telling different stories than what they reported to police in 2006 and seeing the obvious signatures of deception in their interview, I saw that the sweet innocent family was completely gone and a dollar bill sniffer family sat firmly in it’s place.
All that having been said, I think it was probably illegal for the records to be released and if it is found to be the case that it was illegal, I hope they have some recourse there.

When Jim Bob Duggar sat down with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly to discuss his son Josh’s molestation scandal, he suggested that the records of the investigation — obtained by In Touch Weekly through a Freedom of Information Act request — were released because the Springdale, Ark., police chief, Kathy O’Kelley, may have taken a bribe.
Kelly didn’t challenge that outrageous suggestion but now, Doug Sprouse, the mayor of Springdale, is firing back. In a June 8 statement posted on the city’s website, Sprouse forcefully shot down the Duggars’ claim as “outrageous and categorically false,” without mentioning the family by name.

The mayor proceeded to list the facts about why the city had to release the 2006 report to be in compliance with state law, again, taking aim at misleading statement by the Duggars.
The statement reads:
The City will not dignify suggestions of misconduct in this matter by Chief O’Kelley with any comment beyond labeling them as outrageous and categorically false. Chief O’Kelley is a dedicated public servant whose career in law enforcement has been committed to duty and the adherence to the law.
With respect to the release of records pursuant to requirements of the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the facts are these:
The City complied with each and every requirement of the FOIA with respect to the request for records.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I watched a few episodes of their show (it had to be at least a year ago) and found the Duggar family to be hardworking and appealing. I was completely unprepared for what has recently been disclosed.

The police report and victims testimony was that they were fondled on the breast and vagina. The 5 and 8 year old were fondled under clothing and panties. The 5 year old reported that her rear was fondled also.
I don’t get any of this.All people have to do is read the police report and see what was said.It’s like they have an agenda.I think it’s wield a teenager would be attacked to an 5 year old and an 8 year old.
I wonder if someone did something bad to him. I heard that they left their baptist church and started to homechurch when Josh was about 11.
So many perverts in churches these days and back then too.
