The cause of an early morning fire north of San Diego was an electrocuted bird falling from an active power line
A bird carrying a snake in its talons struck power lines north of San Diego, sparking a hillside fire just west of The Merge.
San Diego Police arrived to the location on Dunhill Street near the intersection of Interstates 5 and 805 just before 6 a.m.
Flames were burning very close to businesses including the General Atomics building, officials said.
Officers called in San Diego Fire-Rescue crews who contained the fire within an hour.
Fire officials initially told NBC 7 a bird with a snake in its mouth was electrocuted on a power line and fell to the ground, sparking the fire. A photo released by officials later shows the snake in the hawk's grasp.
"A hawk that hit the high voltage power line, caught fire, and fell to the ground," SD Fire-Rescue spokesperson Lee Swanson said in a written release.
There were no structures damaged and no evacuations ordered.
This area of San Diego is home to many companies in the region's biochemical industry.
AMD makes computer chips. They make a lot of controller chips and they used to manufacture Intel CPUs under license to help Intel avoid anti-trust laws. Then they actually started manufacturing Intel compatible CPUs that could run the same instruction set Intel chips can run. Now Intel CPUs are typically in higher-end computers and AMD CPUs are in lower-end ones.
I’m assuming you see something that raises the question?
Oh, and for completeness, AMD = American Micro Devices.
I wish I could claim credit but it was actually inspired by the old Steve Martin routine and what he claimed he answered when someone asked him, “Mind if I smoke?”
OH, dear.
There are two programs with AMD at the beginning (I would have to look again) but they were installed very early in the computer’s construction. I just wanted to know if I could delete them without problems in other programs.
Not exactly my words, but they will do in open forum.
My nose feels like it’s been burned inside.
Yuck.
I’ll be feeding the troops supper in a few minutes, and then I have to go to Charlotte and get April the babysitter, but first I’ll get gas in the van.
I’m getting a migraine. At first, I thought it was another ice pick headache, but if that’s the way it started out, it has since morphed.
Ungh.
Unnngh.
Yep. Ohwell. It won’t be long before I head for bed, anyway. I didn’t do as much as I wanted today, but I did get out of bed and take a shower! YAY!!! (Some days, I can’t do that.)
My little Norfolk Island palm is drying out and dying and I don’t know what to do to help it. I water it every other day and mist it when I water it, but that doesn’t seem to be helping. Maybe I should put it on freecycle.com and offer it to a home with more plants in it. I’m SUCH a serial plant killer.
Have you looked up the care of Norfolk Island palms on the Interwebs?
I’m doing everything it calls for except my house is dry and warm and it does better in a cooler, wetter climate. Maybe I’ll just donate it to the community room. It’s always cool there, and someone will see that it is watered and misted.
It’s 109 on the patio and the bottom is dropping out of the barometer again. Monsoon season is SOOO early this year. Last year, it was almost three weeks late. This year, about a month early. *groan*
And now, because I am so frustrated with this PC, I am going to go to bed and read.
And maybe, if I feel up to it bright and early, I will go walk at Walmart in the morning.
.
Oh, I see.
One of those people.
Har!
Those are telephone cables though.
Thought of you, don't know why...
LOL!
How many faces would freerepublic put here?
I will head out for Walmart in a few. I’m going to empty my froggie bank into the change machine and get a cash slip so I can get some air freshener. The alternative is to wear a mask in the house. How much fun will that be?
With luck I can walk in there for thirty minutes before the Walmartians begin showing up. The place is still in the throes of change and it’s extremely confusing. One good thing is that the books and magazines are now on the outside of the electronics area instead of inside, but everything else is REALLY messed up.
I’ve been staying away to avoid getting lost....
Luck! The Cub Scouts are boating.
