To: DUMBGRUNT

I hope this isn’t true. I have been trained watching videos involving pigs and it was invaluable in teaching the force required to stop arterial bleeds by packing a wound above the accepted tourniquet points. Never had to use it for real, but it is an important skill set.

I can certainly see why that would be useful.

Getting drunk and examining penises doesn’t seem to fall under the same standards.

The trade school I attended had a elective we could take. I don’t recall the official name but we called it dog lab. Each week we learned a different procedure. Since my goal was to learn how to heal with the knife I took the class. We learned appendectomy, intestinal anastomoses, nephrectomy, etc. the final was trauma. I had thought that if the patient was alive when they arrived you could save them. The final was the surgical team turned their backs and the proctor would stab the dog with a butcher knife, then you could turn around and go to work. He got our dog in the aorta. When I opened the abdomen it was obvious there was a large, expanding retro peritoneal hematoma. We tried but we could not get control of it. We went home early that night.
