Doreetha Daniels has been studying at the community college in Santa Clarita since 2009, determined to earn her degree.
99, here I am, she said at the podium, garnering cheers from the audience Friday.
I accomplished what I wanted to do, and this is my dream come true, she said after the ceremony.
Her grandchildren, who were working on masters degrees, inspired her, Daniels said.
Her son said she persevered through her education despite suffering a couple of strokes and losing her drivers license.
Relatives shed tears of pride after the graduation ceremony where Daniels was awarded an associates degree in social sciences.

Social science?
lol...
Hard to imagine a 99 year-old learning anything. Either she is a rare physical specimen or this is just a feel good degree.
I bet she won’t make much money in that field.
Let’s look at her tax returns in 5 years, and see.
I think it’s a feel good degree but the bottom line is she finished her education and she was committed to seeing it through. At least it’s not as stupid as “community organizing” or “hispanic studies”.
God bless her. I’d like to think it was also to learn just for learnings sake.
May she live long enough and remain healthy enough to put her education to some useful purpose.
Now she can start paying on her student loans.
