If the beach is a priority, then you leave LAX exit the airport going south on Sepulveda and a little more than one mile later make a right on Imperial. You be going West right to the beach and at the end you can go into a parking area at the beach. This will cost you maybe five bucks. The best time to go is on weekdays otherwise you get stuck in weekend traffic. You can go back the way you came and grab something to eat in the nice little town of El Segundo. Go East on Imperial and make a right on Main Street, that’s El Segundo. You can walk safely there.
Be careful around LAX. I was hit while dropping off a cousin by an undocumented immigrant, who then drove off like a scalded perro. Hundreds of dollars of damage.
`On a clear day UCLA.’
Take em to the pier in Santa Monica.
There is a park above the pier that looks out beautifully over the whole area.
It is safe and lots to do and see.
At that age they will remember it always.
Either that or Disney.
What ever you decide, make a memory and have fun.
Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knotts, Magic Mountain, the Santa Barbara pier, or go a bit south down to Legoland, the San Diego Zoo, or Seaworld.
None of these days will be particularly cheap, but some are not prohibitively expensive, and all these places are lots of fun.
Sell them.
If you want an education in how “medical” marijuana is working in CA, may I suggest visiting Melrose Avenue or Venice Beach. There you will smell pot all over the place and observe “patients” entering and leaving the “clinics” for their “medicine”.
LA is a city similar to a 3rd world city.
Go south to Orange county....Disneyland/Knott’s Berry Farm.
Laguna Beach is a must! Clear, warm waters! A lot of Art Galleries....
Drive East a few hours into Las Vegas, NV or Lake Havasu, AZ and spend your money in free state. DONT FEED THE LIBERAL BEAST!
La Brea tar pits, beaches (go to Long Beach), LA Museum of Natural History.
Leave quickly.
La Brea Tar Pits is really cool. Also Reagan library in Simi Valley.
Topanga Canyon to Malibu

If, having stuck your toe in the water, you decide at some future point to spend a couple of weeks exploring, then from San Diego north to the Bay Area or even further to the redwoods will be completely fascinating and inexhaustible--well, exhausting, but chock-full of compelling experiences. The only one I'll add to the plethora already mentioned is San Diego's Wild Animal Park. SD's Zoo is rightly world-famous, but this is NE and inland, near Escondido. Lions, giraffes, hippos, rhinos, zebras, etc., roam free on hundreds of acres, which you can view from the safety of an aerial tram. It's really unique and a must-visit. Check their website sometime.
Have fun!
If you like art of all kinds, check The Getty...
Art museum housing the personal collections of J. Paul Getty...Very large, and can take more than one day to work thru it all...
IIRC, admission is $5 for adults and kids are free...Parking is also free...Reasonably priced food available on site...Kid friendly...
In the hills above Santa Monica with spectacular ocean views from outside walkways...
Highly recommend...
Go to the beach in Orange County on a weekday, when not so crowded.
Huntington Beach has 9.5 miles of flat paved trail, for a bike ride or a walk. You can rent bikes there by the hour, half-day or day.
Or further South in Laguna Beach there are hills, coves, etc.
Anyway there are 43 miles from Seal Beach to San Clemente to pick from.
Your request reminds me of when my 85-year-old Aunt Verna came out to visit from Oklahoma. The two requests she had were (1) go to Knotts Berry Farm; and (2) see the ocean. The first day we took her to Knotts Berry Farm and she had a grand time.
The next day we took her to Huntington Beach. It was quite a stroll on the sand until we came to a crest and the ocean spread out before us. She was quiet as she gazed out over the broad expanse of blue and then said, “This sure beats the HELL out of Knotts Berry Farm.”
Go find Sean Penn’s new house & you & the kids leave a surprise on his porch, film it & his reaction and pay for college with the viral views...
