I went through boot camp in early 70 and we also had M-14s but M-16s in infantry training. The Army began using M-16s around 1965 and I believe the Corps did as well.

We were issued M-16’s when we went to Camp Lejeune for a week during boot camp. They seemed like toys compared to the M-14. but they were a hell of a lot better to carry on a force march!..................

We had M-16s during infantry training. At my permanent post we again had and qualified with M-14s.
