I’d go with an aluminum baseball bat first. Quite, doesn’t need reloading.

The sound of a rifle just attracts them. I’d get a machete or a shovel/hoe or maybe a big rock. Go for the head only....... If you're going to go that route, get a crossbow. Quieter than a rifle, able to hit a target at reasonable distance, and the bolt (arrow) can be recovered and re-used.
