Do you really believe that the various political factions here (which are all really one socialist machine) would starve tens of millions of former private sector people to death for the first time (those who once manufactured, maintained and built)? They're accustomed to living slim since the socialist, political/regulator class folks shut down the real industries.

If things go that bad, don't expect to see government pay to anyone outside of military personnel. Even an austerity program implemented soon would take more than half of government and pensioners down with it including most of those involved in defense contracts. Laid off teachers, firefighters, police, regulatory office folks, administrators, formerly government-linked business folks, pensioners, social workers, psychologists--those are the people who would perpetrate armed riots and end up gnawing on each others' skulls.

Our country can feed the hungry, but it can't continue big spending support for 40 million government income recipients and the services that, in turn, depend on their spending. For the most part, many of them are not producing much more than impedances against production and other troubles.
