What a good time in America. Video at link.
As for Beany's I don't recall it at all. However, I do recall a drive in restaurant at the corner of PCH and 7th that was very popular for we "cruising" teenagers (shades of "American Graffiti"). It was there I was introduced to cherry Cokes (not in the bottle, the cherry flavor was added. Way cool). If anyone can recall the name of that restaurant, I would appreciate it.
Btw, how many recall the TV show that was the basis for Beany’s? Beany and Cecil (the seasick sea serpent), one of my favorites.
Coleman Young: the Communist Who Destroyed Detroit

“If one man could be blamed most for the destruction of Detroit, it would be Coleman Young.
Mayor from 1974 to 1993, Young set a city already in decline on the pathway to the disaster area it is today.
Coleman Young had a well-deserved reputation for corruption, but few today understand his communism.
It is important to know that it was a combination of crony capitalism and communism that destroyed Detroit, because that is exactly the formula being employed by Youngs spiritual heir, Barack Obama, from the White House today...”
Trey cool and a woodie station wagon too! My wild guess is a Plymouth.
Thanks..I love this site but it is notgood for me to post since i am not really glorify Christ with my remarks. The man you mention did destroy the city. I was born in Mt Clemons and came to Detroit whe n I was 2. 59 now. Duggan is a liberal but seems to be doing some good.
In 1950, not long before you were born, the United States was the wealthiest country in the world. The other contenders for that title were still recovering from the wreckage of WWII.
In 1950 the fourth largest city in the United States was Detroit. And although it was the fourth largest city, when it came to wages it was number one. Detroit had the highest standard of living in America, at the time that America had the highest standard of living in the world.
Somehow in the next 20 years Detroit went from being one of the world’s great cities to being a disaster. And for whatever reason it happened it has been a tragedy for the people of Detroit and for America at large. The arsenal of democracy became a ruin.
My parents had a ‘67 Plymouth station wagon. They would make a big bed in the back when we took road trips.
Also when I was growing up , Detroit was the 5th largest city in country! I was so proud.
