Wasn’t there a movie years ago along these lines..all the volcanoes on the Pacific Rim erupt...movie ends with Earth having a second moon..

As a little kid, the movie Crack In The World, was really scary. I think it was about drilling down to magma for green energy.

There was a Dr Who story called Inferno that dealt with drilling and disastrous consequences. Weak science but a good serial.
