Animal rights activists are blasting a top-ranked Oklahoma charter school after its students were seen on video using dead cats to act out dance moves, set to the jingle used in commercials for Meow Mix cat food.

Make that 102.
Thanks for the pic!
Still funny after all these years!
That would seem logical.
With ~83% of the cats accounted for that leaves a mysterious 17%. Going LIVE to labs?
The ones I worked on in anatomy class weren’t as........er......’limber’.
Didn’t find it funny. Just childish.
Too much of the macabre in their literature classes? Edgar Allen Poe, please phone home....
Like Bones says, “they're dead Jim”.
Don’t give ‘em any ideas...they’ll be dancing human hearts next.
I agree. I'm not Jewish, so if I'm wrong here, I hope someone corrects me. But it's my understanding that it is Jewish law that animals should be treated with respect and compassion, even those that are to be killed and eaten.
That always struck me as a good idea. And its the respect part I'm not seeing here.
Oh, grooooooooooan
This is horrible, desensitizing, and poisonous. Shame on them, and on anyone who thinks this is funny.
Because my hypothetical and what happened in that school are not all that different.
PETA has been known to donate to terrorist organizations, such as ELF.
Yes, it was in bad taste. Yes, I laughed from the beginning till long after the end. It was all the more outrageous because the choreography was well planned and executed. I’m sure heads will be exploding for quite some time. I have a feeling this was done completely by the students, with virtually no adult intervention. Reminded me of something Mel Brooks might have done in (forgive me) “Springtime For Hitler In Germany”.
I just watched it again. This is made funnier with the kiddie faces mysteriously blurred, as though something diabolical is going on.
Agreed.
Is it funny? Not in the least (IMHO); it’s another effort in a long line of “we’re not creative enough to be really funny, so we’ll make people laugh by shocking them, instead” efforts.
Is it animal cruelty? No, since the animals were dead.
Could it desensitize people and “nudge” them closer to tolerating cruelty to animals? Yes.
Should it be illegal under the laws of the nation? No... since it’s not the job of government to prohibit general stupidity.
Is it sickening and an indicator of moral flaws? Yes.
Should it be applauded? No.
Is this a negative indicator of where our country is going? Yes.
I have no problem with killing animals at need (e.g. for food, to dispose of predators, for sport, etc.); but I still go with the adage which I learned when I was a kid: those who are callous (or cruel) toward animals will tend to be callous (or cruel) to humans. (I think the original version was, “If you find someone who’s cruel to animals, stay the [expletive] away from him!”)
Just MHO.
I wonder how many of the people on this thread who think that this was funny, even hilarious, would think so if these were dead dogs the students doing this with?
I think it would be even funnier if they had dead dogs singing “meow meow meow” ...
For some odd reason, they rarely use dog cadavers in high school biology classes. It’s usually either cats, rats or fetal pigs. We used rat cadavers. I was somewhat surprised how big they were.
