I’m not surprised—the technology is still so new that it will still take years to refine it to take account of the best-know potential accident situations.
You will have Big Brother at the wheel.
Again, as a pedestrian, one of the things I’ve wondered about is how these cars make certain decisions. If some sort of collision is inevitable, how does the car decide whether it should hit a large object, like another car, or a small object, like ME?!?
“Object Detected! Analyzing Object... Object is pink and squishy and poses no threat to vehicle... accelerating to minimize vehicular damage.”
Agreed. Also, saying “it wasn’t the vehicle’s fault” isn’t the same thing as “there’s nothing the vehicle could have done to avoid/reduce the collision”. There’s been many times I’ve avoided an incident that would not have been “my fault” had we collided.

Autopilot.
One word - Hastings.
The propose of the automobile being a cheap affordable form of transportation has been lost. Sucks. Now they are because more complex than the space shuttle. What good is that?
Henry Ford would not approve.
Cheap and affordable went out the window years ago. I bought my house for less than some cars.
Blame it on government regulations. Today, no one like a Ford could design a car that is simple, affordable and compliant with a crushing load of government regulations. As a matter of fact, the same can be said for healthcare. Blame the damned government!!!
Now let me see the videos of “vacant” cars passing or a quick stop or a maneuver for the deer in the highway. This whole affair is “controlled” BS.
Got two different stats from different locations.
3T miles driven in USA in 2005. 6,420,000 accidents.
That comes to 467,289 miles per accident. Which sounds really high to me.
Possibly I’m confused.
