When my grandson and his mother moved out of my condo, I inherited George and Gracie, two land tortoises. They had babies three years ago, some of which survived to be given away at school. I feed them when I’m there and am moving them this summer to a farm. Tame little things. Knock on the door for banana bits some days. They live on insects and greenery. When the grasshoppers arrive, they have a big time.
A tortoise or painted turtle would have gotten along fine, but they probably wouldn't have stayed on the property'
The first time daughter saw a snapper in their drive way she called me and thought it was neat...I asked her if she ran over it with the car and she thought I was nuts....a couple of years later when a big one took down her duck she had raised from a day old, she had totally changed her mind on snappers..if anyone disagrees with me, that fine, we are all entitled to our opinions, but if you haven't had experience with those critters, your opinion is worth too much...sorry to sound so cold, thats life
What kind of tortoises? I have a 3 toes box tortoise I keep outside in a pen. Had him since birth and rescued from near death. Always on the hunt for more. If you ever have more babies, I will gladly pay for one. Some tortoises sell for well over 100 per.
