Why men won't get married anymore: Women complain chaps today won't settle down.
Daily Mail ^ | 04/19/2015 | Peter Lloyd

For an army of women, Mr Right is simply not there, no matter how hard they look for him. And the reason? When it comes to marriage, men are on strike.

Why? Because the rewards are far less than they used to be, while the cost and dangers it presents are far greater.

‘Ultimately, men know there’s a good chance they’ll lose their friends, their respect, their space, their sex life, their money and — if it all goes wrong — their family,’ says Dr Helen Smith, author of Why Men Are Boycotting Marriage, Fatherhood And The American Dream.

‘They don’t want to enter into a legal contract with someone who could effectively take half their savings, pension and property when the honeymoon period is over.

‘Men aren’t wimping out by staying unmarried or being commitment phobes. They’re being smart.’

Pretty good observation.

He should have been raised better. This is another problem.

I agree.

The last reason to get married is to get a piece of arse. But you have to choose your mate wisely. If you choose wisely, marriage isn’t as difficult as everyone seems to think it is. Be nice to each other. Don’t ever take low blows at each other. Some people (male and female) just don’t have the right personalities to be married. If you go into it thinking what can I get out of this, you’re not going to be successful.

If young men would live Christian lives and stick to dati.dating ladies that don’t put out, they would get better results.

The Children Act of 1989 specifically declares: ‘The rule of law that a father is the natural guardian of his legitimate child is abolished.’

A year later, a report by the Institute for Public Policy Research called The Family Way saw Harman declare: ‘It cannot be assumed men are bound to be an asset to family life or that the presence of fathers in families is necessarily a means to social cohesion.’

Even now, the Children and Families Act of 2014 doesn’t mention the word ‘father’ once. Not once.

Guys will never learn. They run after the gals with the breast implants and the provocative clothes..

Wow. Its like you really know me.

Girls never love. They murder their babies by the score. Loveless murderers blaming men for being unappealing.

Why are gals baby murderers, ladyjane?

I'll tell you what, Doodle...I wouldn't exchange my husband for all the wealth in the world. Being his Mrs. is beyond all value to me.

Since when was it rule of law that fathers are “natural” guardians? Women have been given the assumption for a very long time.

(In all mammalian species, females ARE the natural guardians, just by virtue that their belly protects the fetus rather than merely depending on adults watching eggs, but I digress....)

I don’t know about this Child act stuff, but it is indeed a shame if fathers are not mentioned.

I know personally several times where the woman is a total ass, but father had to fight like hell to have custody. It should have been obvious, but default was with the woman, even if she really only went to court to have some kind of status symbol. I don’t really mind the default, but it should not be hard to wrest the child from a fool woman.

The Modern Feminism movement is not really about equal rights; It is a female supremacy movement.
Radical feminists use the word ‘equality’ but they don’t mean equality by any commonly understood definition.
You see, they aren’t really trying to create a world which holds women to be inherently equal with men;
They are trying to create a world which holds women to be inherently better than men.
They believe men deserve to be punished collectively for all past transgressions against women and they want all laws to reflect this attitude.

Apparently you haven’t read alot of these FR anti-female reads. The true colors come out, and you see that indeed, there is plenty of misogyny and just plain sexism as there was in the past.

When someone is called a misogynist a reply in turn is well within reason.

“Money the individuals had prior to the marriage is not supposed to be counted and inheritances aren’t counted either.”

If that were true in practice, then “pre-nuptial agreements” would be unnecessary. Unfortunately, that’s not really the case. Rules on division of assets vary state by state, and it is routine for parties to simply file for divorce in the state which will give them the most favorable distribution. Even if that doesn’t happen, the rules are merely guidelines, because family court judges can ignore them on a whim, and those judges can also invalidate pre-nups, so there is no real effective protection against this kind of thing.

"They believe men deserve to be punished collectively for all past transgressions against women and they want all laws to reflect this attitude."

Yep, that sums it up. The only additions I would make is "they want men to be punished collectively for all past transgressions, both real and imaginary". They're just like the reparations crowd on that count. It doesn't matter to them if the people they are punishing today aren't the ones who committed the supposed injury. All that matters to them is that they win.

1. When you turn 18 you are an adult. Act accordingly.
2. Get rid of the cable tv and go do something with your date. It builds the relationship. Cable also reinforces behavior that is counter to good relationships and viewpoints which are clearly wrong. Cut the cable.
3. Guys are looking for someone who can be their best friend. Fathers, teach your girls to shoot and fish as these are dating and marriage skills.
4. Guys do not like to shop. This will never change.
5. Guys do not have the language to talk about relationships. Most of those conversations are not understood by guys.
6. Guys need time to be with other guys doing things. The time spent with other guys sharpens them.

Sex is not the highest calling of a human being despite the fact that popular culture insists that it is. There are many more important things in life.

The extended childhood of the current younger generation is a major problem. I see it frequently and it is quite alarming.

“Since when was it rule of law that fathers are “natural” guardians?”

That was explained in the article. They were referring to the laws in the UK, where that was codified up until a few decades ago.

A guy with that attitude isn’t really ready for marriage anyway.

I totally agree. But in this day of free sex, both sides have less need to get married. It’s no longer an ambition to them. And now the holiness of marriage is going to take another hit when same-sex “marriage” becomes part of the norm.

It’s a sad state of affairs. Many divorce settlements are unfair to one party or the other.

Some of us have been very lucky to get into a trusting relationship. I’d never be even be tempted to get into a marriage if I didn’t trust the other person completely. I don’t think I’d ever have a prenuptial agreement either. Exception: if it were a second marriage and we were in our 70’s and each had children. Then a prenuptial agreement would make sense.

"my question is how is it a conservative position to take something (during divorce) that is not yours and you never earned (i.e. the material wealth of your spouse before you were married)?"

I see that both of you ladies have not seen fit to answer my query. I suppose that your silence is all the answer I require. Thanks.
