If the ghosts of Frank Sinatra and Liberace were still hanging around the Riviera Hotel and Casino on Monday morning, they wouldn't have found a seat at the bar.
Crowds squeezed onto barstools and milled about the casino floor saying goodbye to "The Riv," a classic that spent 60 years on the Las Vegas Strip and closed at noon.
It's an age reached by few properties along the four-mile stretch of hulking casino resorts mimicking other worldly landmarks or beckoning passers-by with all their wants in one place that have replaced Sin City's recent past.

Oh...The Riverside in Laughlin has sorta the Riv thing going on. Or used to. Havent been to Laughlin in a while.
Ah KC, Friend, Pal, buddy?
If your “female” courier ...Ahem...whipped it out, where exactly did you go to get that sort of mod?????? I know there’s an Asian doc that does all sorts of body mods and all but I didn’t see that one in the stock game.
Not that I’m judging...
;)
The Las Vegas Club downtown....now that has the Fallout New Vegas feel. Creepy joint.
Not ringing a bell. I don’t remember it right off hand. I will say one thing though. Crazy Horse 2? Believe the stories. Monster Guidos at the door and inside, lots of cash and drugs flying around. And ...things. No one screwed around in there unless they were screwing around.
Remember Westward Ho! ? That had the old/creepy thing as well. Probably since it WAS.
It was our first time in Las Vegas last year and we stayed at the Riviera and you are right, it was a terrible dump. I thought the cocktail waitresses were older than the casino, but I did get one of the best prime rib dinners I have eaten at one of the restaurants there. Vegas was something to see, being an American, but I don’t have an urge to ever go back.
In waiting for a new Fallout to come out for the XBox One. I remember playing the first Fallout Game, Wasteland by Interplay back in the 80s, I couldn’t get enough of it.
most people that like to gamble would rather be in Vegas ...
my state had the opportunity to have simple video poker type machines allowed in bars, taverns and restaurants that would have brought in $40 million for the state yearly and this was about 15 yrs ago....but no, they didn't want gambling to be everywhere...after all, they had to keep their campaign contributions coming in from the indian casinos, who rule the state..who btw were given special permission to locate their big casino well off their reservation.....
Riiiiggggtttt......So you say. Bur she’s been down in those radioactive vaults soooo.. Mutation happens!
Rumors say Christmas-ish...maybe but don’t count on it.
Las Vegas Club is on the corner of Fremont, right across from the Golden Gate. I would drive by the Crazy Horse 2 just to glance at the street show outside. Never slow down...keep moving...lol.
The Ho’ had a good $2 Blackjack game, but you took your chances just getting there and back.
I ...THINK... that got turned into a failed sports bar sorta thing around 2000. It was a Nascar and other car sport Racing themed thing before they converted the Tropicana? Which also failed.
I might be thinking of the wrong corner though.
Crazy2 was fun to go once or twice to say you had been there. You’d end up broke, mobbed up or dead if you were a regular.
I would have liked to have gone to the Palimino for that reason but it was long gone.
I don’t think I ever visited the Riviera, unless that was the one that had the $1 Blackjack tables (what can I say? I’m cheap).
My first couple trips out, I actually spent most of my gambling time at the downtown joints. I always felt that was probably closer to the “old Vegas” my dad used to talk about when he would go. No cheesy gimmicks, no soccer moms in baby strollers, just gambling, good booze, and good food (I loved eating in the “coffee shop” in Binion’s.)
Last time I went out, though, I was very disappointed with how far some of the downtown joints had fallen. I haven’t been back in years.
Brainlock...it was the Sahara that they converted to Nascar. Which then failed.
Their brilliant plan to turn Vegas into a family destination had some unforseen ‘fallout’. I think that played a big part in Downtown going to hell at least in the eaely stages of the fall. Once they abandoned that fiasco the economy tanked so double whammy.
“I loved eating in the coffee shop in Binions.”
Best prime rib dinner I ever had in my life was upstairs in the old downtown Binion’s sometime I think maybe in the mid-90’s. Waiters in tuxes, the whole nine yards.

I agree. Just returned from first Vegas trip 4 days ago. The over-hyped boxing match was rolling into town as I was leaving. A city of excess. People watching was instructive. Some observations - too many people not aware of their immediate surroundings - and walking with smart phones contributed to this. Bad manners prevalent in a confined areas. Street hustlers - giving away “free” $200 gambling credits. A man in his late 30s walking out of a casino with a face of despair and anger - most likely losing money at a faster rate than he earned it. A sad place really despite its superficial fun and good times image.
I doubt it, they would usually be hyping it and putting teasers out by now if it was to be released by Christmas. That’s what they did for most of the Elder Scrolls games and other releases in this franchise as well.
