Yup. But it was hard, manually intensive and productive work. Character building work.

And in this day and age would do incredible things for unemployed, disaffected inner city youth. Yank them out of the urban environment, send them off to rural areas to plant trees or clear out brush or something. Give them opportunities to learn lucrative skills like plumbing or carpentry or machine repair.

Some of the CCC structures here in Iowa are still in good shape after all these years, and are used frequently (if not daily). My guess is that anything done by the current cast of characters will be over-budget and under-built.

The Vilsack Rule: anything Tom Vilsack is involved with will suck, vacuum cleaners excepted.
