Computer generated graphics have come a long way in the past several years and are starting to blur the line between animation and real actors. One of the more difficult tasks for CG artists is to recreate human emotions, especially crying, though you wouldn't know it after watching a tech demo that Square Enix showed off at the Microsoft BUILD Developer Conference.

The real-time tech demo is called Witch Chapter 0 [cry] and is part of a research project that studies various next generation technologies. For this particular demo, Square Enix put a lot of research into real-time CG technology utilizing DirectX 12 in collaboration with Microsoft and NVIDIA, the company said. It's an ongoing project that will help form Square Enix's Luminous Studio engine for future games.

That is really amazing.

The close up of the witch’s face near the lip area is as realistic as anything I have ever seen.

I thought that the Luminous engine is the one being used for FFXV, but obviously the ps4 is not going to be able to perform at that level.

I would love to get my hands on a pc version though.

Wow, so good! The tech is clearly awesome, but I wish Square would get their act together and finish some games.

Given that the technology is being demonstrated with Microsoft, NVIDIA, and DirectX 12... I feel confident that since they directly talk about providers in the Win 10 OS then it will indeed appear in a PC version in the near future. :)

Umm... no, actually it is Square Enix’s Luminous Studio engine in fact that is powering everything.

Still need an upper-edge graphics card to achieve all that, though.
