Mr. Mercat and I went up to watch the sunrise over Haleakala Crater in Maui. We didn’t go to the tippy top. Our guidebook took us to a turn off just before the summit and it was incredible. Peak experience, pun intended. Winds must have been gusting towards 50 miles an hour, edge of a cliff, freezing cold. We were the only ones there. No diesel busses.

Refraction of moonlight through the Earth's atmosphere makes the Moon appear slightly oval.Sounds like something from "Men In Black." :)

I just watched Moonrise over Skidaway Island here in Georgia from the net covered cockpit of my 36ft sailing yacht.
It was quite beautiful, even for the Moon (which is WAY to bright for astronomy) and the light reflecting of the water in the marsh was also nice.
