Horrific moment police dog savages man's face after he puts his hands up
Daily Mail ^ | 5/1/15 | Sara Malm

A Utah man is suing the local police force after one of its dogs attacked him during an arrest, after he had put his hands up and surrendered.

Martin Lee Hoogveldt, 33, had already given himself up after armed police entered his home in response to a disturbing-the-peace complaint in 2013, but the dog still jumped at him, clamping its jaws around his face.

The dog handler's body camera captured the horrific attack, and can be seen struggling to get the dog, a German shepherd called Pyro, to let go of Hoogveldt's face.

This is a true case of “hands up - don’t shoot,” IMO.

I love you — and I think more highly of you than I do of any dog.

And I don’t even know you.

I rewatched it - and, he does have handcuffs on - at least one that is open on the right wrist.

My small hometown police force got a dog back in the 60s. They sent one guy to training with the dog. After a few months the cop was caught screwin’ another cop’s wife and got fired. Now they had a trained dog with no trained handler.

Yet one of the cops thought he could control the dog and started taking him in his car with him. It wasn’t long before the dog turned on the cop and the cop had to shoot it six times. The dog lived and was sent away somewhere.

I see comments like that a lot. Our local cops have very few mitary vets, but they’re still jerks.

to protect the neighborhood and before the fire department could come in, officers had to secure Mr. Hoogveldt."

Really? The Fire Department cannot put out a small yard fire without police protection, even when the landowner has not made a single move towards the firemen (because they were never called)? Amazing.

He shouldn’t have been insolent and defied a lawful order. He was warned. Fair bite!

Are you intentionally moronic, or is it accidental? "Insolence" deserves an attack by 3 armed men and an out-of-control animal? Refusing to stand up earns a person permanent disfigurement? I hope your children enjoy living with that kind of treatment someday.

OK, besides the fact it is NOT a German Shepherd....

I see a WHITE guy got mauled....OMG! 2 years ago!

Where are all the “rallies” and “protests” and riots and looting?

Good article on the history of police unionization and how it now protects bad cops.

Same here, when I was a kid in school, a town cop pulled into the school yard and shot a stray dog that wasn’t bothereing anything right in front of the little kids!
In my sixty-some years since then I only recall two cops that didn’t fit the Bully-b-——ds/badges meme.

Yes, it is a mali, if they can’t get that right, I’m not so sure about the rest of it. I have a malinois on my lap currently. For the ones who say, “kill the dog”, dogs only do what they are told to do. An ‘out’ is trained at 6 months

He shouldn’t have been insolent and defied a lawful order. He was warned. Fair bite!

This was somewhat similar to the Erik Scott murder in Las Vegas, except that the "conflicting orders" were "issued" by just a single moronic bully-with-a-badge.

He tells the guy to show him his hands, then tells him to stand up slowly, then tells him that he can't see his hands, then tells him to stand up slowly.

He's making the guy raise his hands, but is apparently too much of a tard to understand that the guy would have to lower his hands and use them to get himself off the low couch.

If the guy would have lowered his hands, the bluebully would have sicced the dog on him, also.

The only thing that would have got the guy was a whole lot of 9mm holes through out his whole body.
