We had one in NC but it was disbanded in 1996 by the NC Adjutant General.
The NC State Guard Association was formed from some of the former members of the State Guard as a 501 c3 organization.
They stand ready for if they are needed.
A state guard seems like a pretty important organization for every state to have, especially states with a lot of hard charging patriotic people who want to be ready for state emergencies and disasters, people like the Southern states have.
I would like to see state guard people manning road blocks and aid stations during forest fires and floods and such.
At one time there was an SC equivalent. I saw them at the guard wetsite a few times back in the early 90s.
Guess they’re still around.
Thought about CAP after (if) I get a pilot’s license. Be at least the fall before that happens.
