New CBS Series To Test Generosity By Asking Families To Choose Between Keeping Or Sharing 100K

A new CBS series will be testing the compassion and values of a dozen struggling families this summer, by presenting them with briefcases containing more than $100,000, and giving them an option to either keep it all, or share it with someone who might need it more.

The Briefcase will feature hard-working American families, who are feeling the impacts of financial setbacks, when they are presented with a briefcase containing $101,000.

Every week, two families will have 72 hours to learn details about each other’s taxing circumstances and make the difficult decision of what to do with the cash. The catch: they will be unaware that the other family has received the same amount of dough with the same instructions.

“The Briefcase is an eye-opening look into what matters most in people’s lives, taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster ride with a shocking ending each week,” series creator Dave Broome said in a statement. “I’ve been incredibly impressed by just how generous Americans are, even with shrinking paychecks and rising debt, when there’s little left to give.”

“We’re testing the human spirit,” Broome told Entertainment Weekly. “These days, with paychecks shrinking, we wanted to tackle human values in a way in a big and loud way.”

The producer told the industry news site one episode will feature a “right wing, Texas Christian conservative, God-loving, gun-toting” clan. They slowly learn that the other family in the equation is a married lesbian couple who want to use the money to have a baby via intrauterine insemination.

“It’s like, ‘Congratulations, you’ve just won the lottery, but here’s a mirror that comes with it,’” Broome said. “Ultimately it has nothing to do with the money. It has everything to do with who they are.”

'The Briefcase' will debut May 27 on CBS.

So in other words, this isn't about charity or "sharing" at all, it's really about setting a gotcha trap for conservatives. Figures.

I’d call the cops. Anyone with that much cash is up to no good. They do the asset forfeiture, the media drones end up in jail, and I get the finder’s fee. I’d call that a win-win-win. Add another win for the lawyers.

Will you be surprised if you find out that the conservatives gave away their money, and the other couple kept theirs?

It’s going to be scripted, anyway.

I followed the link to the original article:

All of the families are profiled. I think this is the one in question:

The Wylies of Rio Vista, Texas: After suffering a bad back injury almost 20 years ago and losing his well-paying job in the steel industry, Matt now works as the local constable. Becky and Matt admit that their financial situation has made life difficult, but they believe strongly in community service and rely heavily on their Christian faith to guide them.

The Baileys of Dorchester, Mass.: Three years ago, Tonya and Leila took in Leila’s nephews, Milton and Jaden, and today the children are thriving. Taking on the responsibility of two children comes with added costs and they have put their dream of having a child of their own on hold.

Rio Vista is about an hour south of Ft. Worth.

So, do you think this is going to turn out as expected?

I think the biggest issue will be what and how the information is dribbled out about the other family. The producers can easily manipulate the outcome.

See my earlier posting for more information....

If Rosie O’Doughnuts relationships are any indication in the papers, this series is gonna be a REAL eye opener...

I would answer them, “I gave $25k to Ted Cruz, $25k to Pro-life orgs, and the govt took most of the rest.

To: rights with responsibilities

It’s sort of a marginally more sophisticated version of Bum Fights.
