Interesting, but I’d hardly call using a materiel that responds to ambient conditions, a 4th dimension operand! 3-D Printing is still the base technology here and to my mind we haven’t begun to see its capability, so hyping 4-D is rather ridiculous if this is its extent!

Just as the extraordinary capabilities of 3D printing have begun to infiltrate industry and the family home, researchers have started to develop 3D printed materials that morph into new structures, post production, under the influence of external stimuli such as water or heat - hence the name, 4D printing.

And here I thought they were printing structures that extend into alternate dimensions, which could explain where Optimus Prime's trailer disappears to when he's in robot mode.

The materials scientist said the valve, a 3D printed structure, possessed actuators that are activated solely by water.

And so are sponges chief. Are those 4-D as well?

This is hype....prob need research dollars and grant money
