I was tangentially involved with a guy who got himself shot by the police. He had rammed my car and the car of another person in a fit of road rage. I had passed his car, and he didn't like that fact. He rammed my car with his car three or four times the last time denting the driver side door while I was sitting inside my stopped car.

He turned out to be a paroled violent convict who had gone off his anti-psychotic medication according to his family. He was about six hundred miles away from his home driving a stolen car.

He led the county police on a high speed chase which ended when his car overturned on a sharp turn and rolled several times in a corn field.

When he emerged from his overturned stolen car bleeding profusely from his face, he had a knife in his hand. Four county cops were standing 20-30 feet away with their pistols pointed at him shouting at him to drop the knife. All this was recorded on the police radio.

The guy thought about it for about one minute and then decided to charge the cops. They all fired their weapons and ended the guy's time on earth.

How many bullets did the cops fire? They all fired at least three or four shots. I don't remember reading the final total, but it could have been 15-20 shots at close range.

In short, they totally ventilated the guy. As many shots as needed to put him down.
