I wish they had just stuck to the real story instead of introducing falsehoods about the various characters. Watched all of Season I, but I am passing up this season’s offerings.
A little romance is okay, IMO, if it is authentic to the story. The gratuitous sex scenes that slandered the real life characters were inappropriate.
I think it’s getting better.
Thanks for the info on Patience Lovell Wright. I’ll look her up.
Agreed on the sex. So sick of sex permeating every damn thing on TV. Can’t watch anything with kids around.
It also has to be unrealistic. Not only was there a more moral strain in society then, but it was more practical. Screwing like that any old time meant lots of bastards. Did not seem to be that way, although many today insist it had to be that they screwed just as much as today’s immoral lot.
You are right. Many people under 60 have no idea of the moral restraint under which previous generations lived. They do not realize that up until the 1970s, most women guarded their virtue before marriage and that married people showed respect for their vows.
The behavior of the characters is anachronistic, The sex is what we get deluged with in every series. Too little is left to the imagination. The focus ought to be on Washingtons spy ring.
Agreed. I guess some producers and directors think that we are incapable of focusing our attention otherwise. Others among them are intent upon destroying any sense of modesty and any respect for human sexuality that still survives in our culture.
