DEVELOPING: Jordan Spieth set a 36-hole scoring record at the Masters on Friday.
The 21-year-old Texan turned in another dazzling round, going to the weekend with a 14-under 130 total. That broke the record of 131, set by Raymond Floyd in 1976.
Spieth shot a 6-under 66 in the second round, essentially blowing away everyone in the field except Charley Hoffman. He was four strokes behind and still on the course, turning in the sort of performance that would normally be good enough for the lead.
Not the way Spieth was playing. He had 15 birdies and only one bogey through the first two days.
"It's special to be in the tournament," he said, "let alone out front."
Spieth said his biggest obstacle the next two days will be scoreboard watching.
He said he just needs "to keep my head down, just need to set a goal for myself. Obviously Charley's playing great, and we may be pretty close up there, and who knows what can happen on the weekend here.

I would imagine so. :-)
I think Jordan’s going to be getting a lot more coverage nationally and worldwide in the years to come.
Tigers biggest problem is he swings too fast.
I saw him take a swing today, way too fast, messing his balance up.
If he just slowed down and gave up 10 yards on a few clubs, he’d be winning.
He’s hooked on power and it’s costing him.
Interesting analysis.
Obviously he knows it’s going on, because they have so much technology now to analyze the swing and ball path.
The last time Tiger won the Masters, Spieth was 11 years old.
Tiger’s done better than I expected....It will be interesting to see this weekend who will finish runner-up.
I’ve been thinking that for years. His swing always looked incredibly good when he toned it down a bit. I think when he gets on the course his arrogance takes over and he tries to kill it. He got away with it when he was younger.
As an aside, Nicklaus started toning down his swing when he turned 30.
Obviously he knows its going on, because they have so much technology now to analyze the swing and ball path.
...
I don’t think Tiger swings like that in practice.
They are still trying to sell us on Tiger Woods. He will win more tourneys, but so will others and since I am a Nickaus fan, I hope there’s no more majors for him.
In case you didn’t notice, Mickelson is at -6 which is good for 6th place right now.
And 58 year-old Mark O’Meara shot -4 today to be at -3 after two rounds.
Agreed...Spieth has been playing well. Hes a class act in my view and well be seeing him a lot in the future.
...
Back in 2006, when Spieth was twelve his swing coach said he had a goshawful swing, in spite of just winning a big Texas junior tournament by 19 shots.
I’ve been liking Spieth since he turned pro. So far I can’t find any reason not to like him.
I think Jordans going to be getting a lot more coverage nationally and worldwide in the years to come.
...
If he had black skin or was gay, he’d already be getting it.
Can’t they take the video from actual rounds played on tv and process it to show him the swing and ball data?
I know that’s how Nascar wrecks were analyzed by Dr John Melvin at U of M - right from the tv broadcast video.
Jordan went to Catholic school...he’s gonna be shredded on FR, LOL.
Yes, Thanks!
I checked earlier and noticed both and have been a fan of Mickelson and O’Meara for years. I always have rooted for Phil, he’s one of the good guys and a class act.
Phil’s wife is Mormon, he’s shredded on FR too.....
;-)
I agree but he'll be getting it soon, they are not going to able to ignore a great player.
Yep, I don’t pay much attention to religion, especially in sports but far too many people do. Phil is one of the great ones....;-)
You’re probably right. But I think it won’t make a difference with Tiger. It’s a mental thing with him.
“They are still trying to sell us on Tiger Woods”
It’s beyond obvious, and pathetic.
Tiger this, Tiger that, Tiger blah blah blah.
I wish they would shut up about Tiger!!!
He is only one player (whose dominance in golf has passed);
the media doesn’t constantly “blah blah” about other past great players ....
I am rooting for Spieth....I am rooting for the media to
SHUT UP about Tiger
