I haven’t been sent any TOS changes here, so I am pretty certain I don’t need your prior approval.

But thanks for the input. And I do watch standup. I toned it down b/c this isn’t cable.

Microsoft will never get it right or they would lose money by the buckets! That means a continuous attempt at improvements that have little meaning but look good. Whatever they do, it will never be to create an Operating System is does not have flaws that require fixes!

Can you imagine a Windows version that needs no changes needed? Not going to happen, even if they could do it!

Sooner or later, we have to say stop and live with what we have...at least for the elderly. Their hope in on the young to continue their upgrades into the future. What a racket!

Well they can always say that new technology requires upgrades but when have they actually taken advantage of that? Okay, maybe it only takes them 20 years or so to catch up but they eventually do. So, the next Generation is awaiting their upgrades with baited breath!

Sometimes I really hate the speed of software in relation to the hardware advancements...heh.

More accurate codenames:

Codename: stop, drop, and roll.

Codename: Operation Bughouse

Codename: it’s not a bug, its a feature

Codename: Mozilla’s Friend

Codename: Blue Screen

Has anyone ever done that, beyond possibly very early OSs designed for processors with very limited instruction sets and capabilities?

Yeah, there are a bunch of people using 8.1, and a somewhat smaller bunch still using 8.0 who will have to upgrade to at least 8.1. Taken together, those numbers are dwarfed by the Windows 7 users.

It all depends on whom you wish to believe as to how many are using 8.x relative to the number of 8.x OS licenses sold by Microsoft. There are companies who count up web application hits, for example, and since the webserver can tell the OS and browser type that is hitting them, they can gather statistics and publish them. Everybody has their favorite source.

Like with Vista, MS sold a lot more licenses than every got used. The difference is the number of licenses that were trashed along with the unsold hardware devices they were loaded on but never purchased by end-users. Think about how many early Surface tablets went into the bin. Microsoft counts every one of those as a Windows 8 sale, because from their point of view, they're all sold licenses. But they never were used.

Redstone? That could be an unfortunate naming idea for a Microsoft product launch.

I had an 8.1 Dell but the ram slot went bad. Now have an 8.1 phone, and just ordered another one for off-system use. I don’t understand the objections to 8.1, since the folders system is no different, except the folders that goes straight to the cloud. Win 7 doesn’t have that and I miss it.

Yeah, people might view it as a bad omen, but only if there were more than a handful of us still around who remember those early launches.

Kinda weird to think that someone born AFTER the first moon landing would now be 45 years old.

(Did I figure that right? I ran out of fingers and toes halfway through... Not that I can reach my toes any more. Aw the hell with it...)

Nice to know there are still a few of us lookin' at the flowers and not the roots in the mornin'.

...and your addition/counting fingers and toes is pretty accurate.

Only one correction I can think of: The Redstone launches might have had a few oopsies, but compared to those Vanguards..... I still recall a joke from those days that claimed the countdown for those poor little things went, "5...4...3...2...1...Oh, sh**".

It’s a human vs machine thing..heh. Writing software will always be a problem when compared to hardware - just a fact (human failure). On the other hand, without software, hardware would be helpless. In the future though, software will be written by software robots that understands the hardware so you will just have to wait for the next generation or so...heh. Life and robots move on...

Yeah, but who’s designing the new processors, and writing the new microcode for them?

Sometimes I’ll use scientific notation, but I can never get the exponent to go past 1.

Yeah, a catch 22 I’d say..heh. AI (pun intended) guess it depends upon how fast these robots can out program humans.

Somebody has to program the robots. It’s turtles, all the way down.

You seem to be ignoring the main idea behind AI... They become intelligent and teach themselves. The is the scary part that is being discussed by scientists these days. They will become more intelligent and have more capability of learning than we could ever have! Such is AI...
