That is simply not true. While John sort of stepped away from the entertainment world in the mid 70's after Sean was born (I guess he was making up for the fact he was such a lousy dad to Julian), he had many hits in the early 70's and upon his return to the music industry in 1980 his double fantasy album had a bunch of hits on it. Sadly, his music legacy was cut short after that. As for the Beatles, it has been generally understood that the songs John wrote, he sang and the songs Paul wrote he sang. Going by that, John penned quite a few hits for the Beatles also. Now there were some like "I want to hold your hand" that were sung by both so who knows which one wrote it. It does sound like a McCartney type of song though. John penned my favorite Beatles song ever "In My Life"...
