I don't think Bush would run as a third-party candidate ... he'd hate to lose. But he won't support Cruz because so many of Ted Cruz's positions run counter to those of Jeb Bush (as well as to those of the GOPEs).

No, the battle will not be in the general election -- it will be in the primaries where the GOPEs will throw all their considerable might not just to elect Bush, but to crush Cruz.

Based on the conduct of recent national elections it's clear to me that the GOPEs would rather lose with a RINO than win with a strong conservative.

Yeah, that sounds about right. The Country Club RINO set isn’t about to let a real conservative win.

Third party route is no longer really possible, certainly not in all states, when one drops out in the primaries. John B. Anderson was able to do this in 1980, but it is no longer likely at all.
