I have a solution for the problem of a pilot getting locked out of the cockpit allowing the co-pilot to commit suicide taking 149 other innocent people with him. Doesn't require expensive hardware, only a policy change.
Make the cockpit a "No Lone Zone". Military folks will recognize this as an area designated for the buddy system. In other words you are never allowed to be alone in the aircraft cockpit. When either the pilot or co-pilot wants to leave, another member of the crew must take his place.
Your call.
I’ve been here over 16 years.
I am just stating the obvious.
Folks when the pilot or co-pilot is not on the flight deck the pilot in charge must be strapped in the seat and on oxygen. If he starts unbuckling or removing his mask, the flight attendant can call the air Marshall who can be there in less time than the pilot can use to get out of the seat. Not as easy as it seems...... Been there.....
That would be "profiling" (especially re Muzz) and the PC police would jump on it. But of course what you said makes perfect sense.
To my chagrin, I just saw on TV they already have the keypad on the cockpit door. Also that there is no evidence that the pilot entered any number code in an attempt to open the door. But they also said that the person inside can overcome attempts to open with the keypad. That strikes me as defeating the purpose, which is no surprise. It was designed by government.
Thanks
How’s about doing what the Israelis did when the muzzies kept suicide bombing their buses?
They put packets of lard on the buses so if the muzzie were to blow it and himself up he wouldn’t get to go to see the 72 virgins.
Seems to be working for them and a whole let simpler than groping every passenger.
:’) In the sled?
A help, but not a full solution. If one wants to do a dirty deed, he can make plans and be prepared to overpower the sane guy in the cockpit - or the female attendant if that be the case.
And a tactical laser or a shoulder fired missile could blow it out of the sky. We could convert all aircraft to auto and do away with pilots altogether.
