A cute story where the toddler has much more respect for hard working garbage men and trucks than politicians or Kardasians. In today's world you never know when and where fame will come from. The first comment from Facebook (which I'm not a part of) was excellent.

When we were kids, my younger brother wanted to be
a garbageman.
He figured they only worked on Tuesdays......

Kinda reminds me of the old ‘Limelighter’ song, “The Ballad of Max Goolis”.

A business associate in New York told me they were the most important people in the city. If the cabs went on strike, people took the subway. Even if the cops went on strike, people could adapt by going to work earlier and coming home earlier to avoid the criminal element.
But if the garbage collectors went on strike, the city would be shut down in less than a week. There was no plan B.
He did mention that a few clever individuals did get their garbage collected during the last strike by buying rolls of wrapping paper from Saks 5th Avenue and other trendy stores, wrapping it neatly and putting it in their cars which they left unlocked.

My cousin’s husband is a garbage man and his son followed in his footsteps. They both absolutely love their jobs.

When he was about that age, my older son wanted to be a garbageman. He liked the idea of riding around, hanging off the side of a truck.

When my son was little he loved the garbage truck too. He would call all trucks “Gar-cuck”. I guess his word for garbage truck.
When I was little, I remember those awesome garbage men. They had those huge cans that they filled up with everyone’s household garbage. Then they would tip it on it’s bottom edge and spin it to the next house - a little roll of the hand around the rim would get it rolling. I thought that was amazing.
As kids we would also chase after the DDT trucks inhaling the noxious fumes. Such fun.

WOW. This brings back memories. I remember back in elementary school the highlight of the week was when the garbage men came to get the bins. All the kids would run to the fence and watch.

When I was a little kid, one of our neighbors worked as a garbage man. We all thought he was pretty cool, yes, even the girls, because he got to drive a big, noisy truck all over town. Now, I find garbage trucks annoying when they wake me up early in the morning on Tuesdays. How times change.
