That has been a fairly common action after a number of mass murders. The apartment building Jeffrey Dahmer lived in was razed. As was the McDonald's where James Huberty shot and killed dozens of people in California.
I guess the thought of keeping the building where murders were carried out or just the home of murderers is too stressful for some people.
