“. My wife commutes to Ft Meade , MD four days per week and it is just under two hours each way. “

Oh my God...what a commute.

That makes her work week 16 hours longer.

My first job was at the family business in Minnesota and I had moved 2 doors down from it. My next job in California I had to drive 1.5 miles and start at 9pm so no traffic.

My next after that was 40 miles and I started at 6am so traffic was light and it took 30 mins to get there.
The current job is just 17 miles away but it takes me about 45 minutes due to traffic as I start at 8am along with 500,000 others in the area.

I want to work from home but the boss says no.....

That makes her work week 16 hours longer.

She leaves at 5am with five others in a commuter van and it takes about 1:45 for the trip. The van leaves for home around 3:10 and she gets home about 5pm or a little later because the traffic at that time is much heavier than at 5am.

I am trying to help her find a job transfer down here to Quantico Marine Corp Base, about eight miles away. Due to the traffic there it would still take her about a half hour to get to work on Quantico.

“Due to the traffic there it would still take her about a half hour to get to work on Quantico.”

A half hour is a reasonable,and quite common,commute.

Good luck with the job transfer.

6 hours commute time per week.

That’s 3 hours each way.

Divided 180mins/5 days = 36 minute commute to work (and 36 minutes to get home) each day.

That’s hardly the longest commute time in America.

I commuted from KC to Topeka for 4 years. I thought that was bad.

When I lived on Staten Island, my commute time was between 2-2 1/2 hours each way. I worked in mid-town.
