Today's feature is not the more famous 1944 Hollywood production of Patrick Hamilton's psychological thriller play "Angel Street" with Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman. This is the lesser known British version filmed 4 years earlier. When MGM made their lavish version, they acquired the print of its predecessor and withdrew it from availability to avoid comparisons with their version. Which one is better? Watch and decide for yourself.
Interesting trivia: when the play debuted in America on December 5, 1941(2 days before the Pearl Harbor attack), the role of the husband was played by Vincent Price. The success of the play and his success in the role convinced him to primarily play villains for the remainder of his career.

so i just finished watching it... the funny thing is, just yesterday someone asked me if i knew what it meant to "gaslight" somebody... i didn't...
anyway, Anton Walbrook kept reminding me of Patrick Bergin in Sleeping with the Enemy... i wonder if Bergin used Walbrook as an inspiration in that role...
