Tom Selleck: 'Blue Bloods' is 'as good as any dramatic show on television'

LOS ANGELES – Despite being Friday night's most-watched program, "Blue Bloods," which averages 13.69 million viewers, doesn't get the ink from the critics that other shows do, and series star Tom Selleck, who plays Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, doesn't understand the reason.

"The work on the show is superb," Selleck tells FOX411.com. "It is truly an adult drama. I have no idea why. I think that kind of perception is fostered by people who haven't really seen it. I say that we are as good as any dramatic show on television."

This Friday, March 13, "Blue Bloods" airs an episode that Selleck feels is especially good, so much so that he decided to publicize it. In it, Frank helps a woman whose life he saved when she was only 6 years old meet the man who killed her father, mother and brother through a prison program called Restorative Justice. Frank has been very protective of Sarah (Amelia Rose Blaire) ever since they met, and he is about to walk her down the aisle when she receives a letter from the murderer.

Just had to vent my anger concerning the show ‘Blue Bloods’
We watch the show regularly.

Last night we were watching a rerun (org. 10/24/15)named ‘Loose Lips’.
Nicky, the granddaughter, writes some disparaging remarks about her History teacher in the Catholic school she attends on Twitter.

Nicky’s mother Erin goes to the school to try to smooth over the issue.

We meet the teacher. She is standing by her desk. A Cross hangs on the wall above the desk.
Right next to the portrait of...CHE GUEVARA.

I watched this show for about 4 minutes. When they called Selleck “Commissioner” yet showed him wearing a uniform, I turned it off never to return.
That's a shame because the reason he still wears the uniform is important to understanding his character.

He is the Police Commissioner.

He came up through ranks and was a beat cop and, as a matter of leadership, he prefers to wear his Chief’s uniform. I think it’s very important for this character, who I’m still finding out a lot about, to wear the uniform.

The Commissioner doesn’t always do that, but this one does. He evolved into the Commissioner.

What I’m really trying to show, because that’s all history, is where he came from. He’s as blue collar as the rest of the family. He’s probably learned to be a little more diplomatic than maybe Donnie’s character is, but he has the same temper, and we’ll probably see that soon.

My favorite drama show.

Tom Selleck is awesome and I love the Sunday dinner scenes.
