The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is shelving a proposal to ban a popular but highly lethal type of bullet, amid opposition from gun-rights advocates and hundreds of members of Congress.
The agency said in a statement on Tuesday it would not seek to issue the final guidelines "at this time." The proposal pertained to M855 "green tip" ammunition, used in the AR-15 rifle, which regulators looked at banning because it can pierce police body armor.
The ATF said it would instead wait until Americans have finished commenting on the federal regulations and evaluate their comments and suggestions before "proceeding with any framework."
The statement follows 52 senators and 238 House members joining in opposition to any attempt the Obama administration might make to ban the ammo.
"This attack on the Second Amendment is wrong and should be overturned," said Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., who started the petition. "A clear, sizeable majority of the House agrees.

Something tells me, like the light bulb ban, this will be back.
This isn’t over. It’s not enough to slap the BATFE’s hand every time they reach for your gun. Real legislation needs to be put in place to jerk the leash on these fascists. You might want to contact your representative concerning this.
“Rust never sleeps” (and neither do evil dhimmicrats)
“This attack on the Second Amendment is wrong and should be overturned,”
And if you were serious at all you would have impeached and removed the head of the ATF, anything short of that demonstrates complicity!
Highly lethal? Fooking idjits!
The BATF needs to be disbanded with every single one of the people barred from law enforcement service anyplace in the country. Half of them should be jailed for crimes against Americans.
Bastards, every single one of em.
F-troop needs to be the thing that is banned. Permanently.
Too bad the head line doesn’t read “BATFE (of F&F fame) bites bullet. No restrictions on AR-15”
“This isnt over...”
They just pause and regroup until people aren’t watching. They get paid to do this stuff. They make a right good living off it. Next week they be back at it.
They did succeed in sending the price of this ammo through the roof, if you can even find it.
Playing defense on this one is not enough. What is needed as a “tentative” Republican proposal of massive and painful cuts to the BATF&E, as part of it being entirely absorbed into another department.
This would penetrate their pointy heads that they need to stop being jerks, or they might soon find themselves looking for new jobs.
I might add that they could light a fire under Eric Holder as well, by offering to *continue* “Operation Choke Point”, but changing those organization on the list to ones favored by the left. That is, telling banks and other financial institutions to no longer do business with say, Planned Parenthood.
Happy with my congressional delegation on this one. Not missing one name.
next....to send all the ATF firearms division employees to work in equivalent or better jobs doing something Constitutional (for a change!) and hopefully also useful.
close up the F part, at least, of ATF....ASAP!
“the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed...”
Remember how all the partisan media shills and other turds talked about how insane it was to believe that citizens needed the 2nd Amendment, and how insane it was to believe that the gov’t wouldn’t just waltz in and kick all our sorry asses no matter what kind of guns we might have? And yet, they are terrified by a simple box of bullets.
3,100 fps or so sounds just about fast enough to me.
“...shelving a proposal to ban a popular but highly lethal type of bullet...”
It’s widely known that, even without a case, primer, or powder, these nasty bullets will kill you deader than dead - in fact, they’ll kill you double-plus really amazingly and unusually dead.
Now THAT’S a highly lethal bullet.
