“How often do you see anything ever reversed?” There have been numerous executive agreements that have changed or withdrawn on changes of administration.

What I don’t like, and I’m not 100% sure this is true, a Treaty can sit on the docket for years while waiting for support to pass ratification.

“Like everything else, they will relent and cave.”

There is nothing to relent and cave to here, unless its appropriations. Diplomacy is in the domain of the President.

That’s why they’re spitting on Obama’s shoes with this one. Getting him angry and making difficulties for him.

As I said, when you force your opponent to respond, you’re winning.

Again, this will not be a “treaty”. Its an agreement, a characterization of convenience for Obama. And he is clearly doing an end run around the feckless senate.

Yes, these senators may be spitting, but its into the wind. Obama has already won by refusing to call it what it is: a treaty. He has no fear of the senate because he knows they are all a bunch of windbags only interested in political theater — and their own re-election. That’s all they are. They are not really “opponents” in any sense of the word unless you consider bloviating to be a serious form of resistance.

I say they are caving because they will not take any action whatsoever. Letter writing is meaningless. The Iranians laughed it off.

A bully only respects those who stand up to him and punch back. I agree with you that appropriations is one way to do that. Its way past time for the senate, and especially the impotent Republicans, to do something to demonstrate its credibility.
