I think it's illegal because insurance companies don't offer boy policies or girl policies. So yes, for men you have to buy policies that cover pregnancy and birth control. But by the same token I have to buy policies that cover prostate cancer and Viagra.
My assumption is that there are no cafeteria type polices for the same reason why there aren't sex-specific policies; it'd be a nightmare for the insurance companies to manage and to price. It's much easier for them to offer blanket coverage and average out the cost.

No, it is political. The reason we don’t have boy/girl policies are because you would be sued for discrimination. The reason so many things are covered is because certain groups lobby to have them included. The insurance companies don’t fight this because the more things that are included the more money going to the insurance companies. You did notice that the biggest supporters of Obamacare were the insurance problems didn’t you?
The ACA mandates insurance companies provide only 3 plans. All plans between insurance companies are the same. And calling it insurance is wrong, its 3rd party prepaid health care with a very high initial out of pocket to make sure most people with their shiny new health care card don’t try to use it. The only difference between plans are what drugs are covered. Unfortunately it would appear Roberts is going to screw US again. His only question was weather a new president could redefine State there by making the subsidies illegal.
